Getting away from your shack and operating in the great outdoors.
So what does that actually mean?
It means taking a small rig, antenna, power source and something to log your contacts and finding a nice location to operate from.
Working and activating parks is addictive and both Linda and I have been bitten. Recently we have had some overnight trips from 1-2 days to 4 days and great opportunity to activate many entities, I say entities because they are NOT necessarily parks. In many cases they are parks but may be National Historic Sites, Natural Areas, Nature Reserves and generally Protested Areas. There are literally thousands to chase (hunt) and activate.
The two programs WWFF and POTA both operate on the premise of getting out of your home shack to the great outdoors to operate. Portable or mobile activities are on the air every day. Both programs have their own website(s) where one can find numerous amounts of information and each programs rules.
And yes they have different and varying rules as to what constitutes an activation and rules for awards programs. So if this interests you please check out the following URL. Awards: After about a year of Hunting and Activating Parks both Linda and I have some very nice awards for both hunting and activating parks. We have activated from the four Atlantic Provinces and to-date I am over 1000 hunted parks.
Many parks from a number of countries of Europe.
